Here are all 12 of the original (not reprinted) 1967 Pirates of the Caribbean postcards.  When Pirates of the Caribbean opened 45 years ago, these were sold in a vending machine inside the Pirate Arcade (no longer there) in New Orleans Square.  There were two sets of 6 cards each- the "A" set (far right) and the "B" set (immediate right).   Based on character drawings by legendary Marc Davis, these 12 cards are in brand new condition after 33 years!  All 12 are pictured in Gordon and Mumford's excellent book, DISNEYLAND - THE NICKEL TOUR.  Not the reproductions, but the original postcards from the 1960s. Sold as a set of 12.  Item # 1521, $99

Fantastic All-Wood Pinocchio Marionette

P1120195.JPG (157291 bytes)

Pinoke_m1.jpg (125285 bytes)

This is absolutely the most accurate, most well made, most true-to-character Pinocchio marionette I have ever seen.  You will swear Gepetto carved each one of these himself!  NOT plastic, NOT resin, but his entire body- feet, legs, arms, hands, torso, and head, are carved wood.  Perfectly costumed, perfectly painted. The joints are held together with leather fasteners- just like in the old country! Authentic embroidery down the side of his pant legs. A real feather in his hat! Included is a wood display base with a metal plaque reading "Walt Disney’s Pinocchio." A brass pole supports the wood puppet operating handles. This wonderful marionette was produced for a short time back in 1998.  Everything was done right!  You'll swear he's about to turn into a real boy any moment!  The high standard of quality made production so difficult and so costly, leaving the profit margin so low that Disney's manufacturer shut down production with less that 3000 of these marionettes produced!   Pinoke stands approximately 12" tall on his base, and the including the brass display pole the entire piece is about 23" tall.  Very gently displayed, repacked in original box; some scuffing to plastic window of box.  Item # 1285, $399

1930's Animation Model Sheet of Foulfellow from "PINOCCHIO"

When the Disney Studio made a cartoon or full length animated film, several artists would work on each character.  It was important that all the animators agreed on the exact look of the character so that the character looked consistent the cartoon- It wouldn't be right if Donald's beak got longer and shorter in  different scenes, or if the flower on Minnie's hat had a different number of petals from one scene to another.  So for each film a "character model sheet" was printed and copies distributed to all the artists who worked on that character.  Only a very small number of model sheets were ever printed for each cartoon  - probably a few dozen- and these were tacked on or near the animator’s table for constant reference. Here I offer a rare 1930's original Disney Studio model sheet of Foulfellow from PINOCCHIO.  By "original" I mean this is the original machine-printed sheet made by the Disney Studio at the time of the film’s production and handed out to the artists working on the film.    Measures approximately 11" x 14".  One horizontal and one vertical fold; otherwise good condition.  Item # 6156, $169.95

This is the original ink and graphite drawing Jack Kinney drew to illustrate his 1989 book "Walt Disney & Assorted Other Characters."
This is the one and only original drawing of this scene by the distinguished Walt Disney animator and director.  This drawing-- depicting a Disney story sketch artist singing "Some Day My Prince Will Come" below Walt Disney's office after being fired-- and just prior to be escorted away by Studio security guards(!)--- appears on page 129 of the book. Jack Kinney has personally autographed the drawing.

Jack Kinney (1909 - 1992) was hired by Walt Disney in 1931, the early days of the Depression, to work at the Walt Disney Studio on Hyperion Avenue in East Hollywood. His beginning career includes his work on several shorts, including Santa's Workshop (1932), The Band Concert (1935), and Moose Hunters (1937). He went on to become a director of cartoons, working on the features Pinocchio and Dumbo, but he really shined in the shorts department, where his Goofy cartoons are among the best to come out of the Disney Studios. He received five Academy Award nominations and won an Oscar for the 1943 cartoon "Der Fuhrer's Face," the only Donald Duck film to win an Academy Award.

In his book "Walt Disney and Assorted Other Characters - An Unauthorized Account of the Early Years at Disney," Kinney recounts the highs and lows of daily life as a member of the creative department at Disney.  The book is not included.  The drawing is on a 12.5" X 10.5" sheet of animation paper.  Includes the Phil Sears Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity and a second certificate from Cartoons & Comics in Burbank, CA.  Item # 5644, $169.95
