| Above: Ward Kimball with Walt Disney | "Ward Kimball, bottom row 2nd from right with the other eight "Walt's 9 Old Men." | Kimball was the only Disney employee Walt Disney called a "genuis. |
|
Of the more than one thousand artists who worked for Walt Disney over the years, he only ever referred to one as a "genius." That was the colorful, eccentric, inventive Ward Kimball. Ward Kimball started with Disney as an artist in the 1930's and continued into the 1980's as a consultant. While his achievements are many, he is popularly known for creating Jiminy Cricket's unmistakable look and being one of Walt's "9 Old Men-" the handful of artists whom Walt considered his most talented and valuable. Kimball also directed Oscar-winning Disney shorts, and continuing on through the 1980's as a consultant on Walt Disney World. Ward was instrumental in encouraging Walt Disney's love of trains (Kimball ran a full size narrow gauge steam engine in his back yard) and Ward is the only non-family member to vacation alone with Walt Disney; the two train lovers went to a railroad exposition, of course. Disneyland has named it's newest locomotive after Kimball. Many of the items offered below reflect Ward's lifelong love of trains. Kimball passed away in 2002, and several years later the bulk of his toy and train collection was auctioned, selling for more than $6 million dollars! More recently his wife Betty has been selling the last of his personal collection. Here we are pleased to present these exceptionally rare items from Ward Kimball's famed San Gabriel, CA home. A small piece of Walt Disney - Ward Kimball legacy can be part of your home for a very reasonable price. Included with every item on this page is the Phil Sears Collectibles Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity stating the item was personally owned by Ward Kimball. Also included is a photocopy of paperwork from Kimball's wife relating to the item. This may be your only remaining opportunity to own a personal item from the collection of Disney legend Ward Kimball! |
